JaVaun Ryal Butler (he/him) is an actor, singer and playwright based in Brooklyn, New York.
Born on the coastline of Texas, JaVaun was raised by gospel music, Creole seasoning and the Harry Potter series. Surrounded by faith, sapidity, and magic made JaVaun acutely aware of the the type of artist he wanted to be and the type of work he wanted to create: art unexpected, inspiring, and thought provoking.
From performances in roles such as the lasciviously lusty and blood thirsty Coyote in Jose Rivera’s References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot to the enslaved, torn, and haunted Hero of Suzan-Lori Parks’ Father Comes Home from the Wars, JaVaun exhibits an excellent mix of curiosity and mischief.
When he isn’t acting, writing, or singing, JaVaun can be found in a corner of the local bookstore, hidden behind a pile of books, with a mug of peppermint tea and the entire bottle of honey.
He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.

REPRESENTATION
“I think us here to wonder, myself. To wonder. To ask. And that in wondering bout the big things and asking bout the big things, you learn about the little ones, almost by accident. But you never know nothing more about the big things than you start out with. The more I wonder, the more I love.”
-Alice Walker, The Color Purple
